- Jon Allen
Jon was born in Norwich, England in 1941. He was educated at Langley School in
Norfolk, where he graduated in 1959.
In 1968, he emigrated to Canada and worked for five years with the Malabar Costume Co. in Toronto. In 1973, he and a friend decided to see the world and spent the next 18 months exploring Asia, Australia and Africa.
Soon after his return to Toronto he met his future wife, Ina, a registered nurse whom he married in 1976. In 1981, in a converted school bus, Jon, Ina and their two young children, moved to Mahone Bay, a small town in Nova Scotia.
He became a licensed real estate agent in 1984 and continued in the business until 2001 when he retired and decided to devote all his energies to music and writing (and golf!).
Jon's love of theatre had been re-ignited in 1993 with the founding of the South Shore Players. He played Bob Cratchit in their first production "A Christmas Carol". Since then he has been involved in most of their shows as either actor or director.
In 2002, he decided to try his hand at writing a musical. Since his arrival in Nova Scotia, music had become an important part of his life and, in fact in 1990 formed a band called "Midlife Crisis", which is still going strong! Through that involvement he started writing songs for the band and now with theatre being very much part of his life, writing a musical seemed to be a natural progression.
"Treasure Island" seemed a wonderful "vehicle" to adapt into a musical and on March 31st, 2006 at the Pearl Theatre in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, "Gentlemen of Fortune" opened.
Jon has now completed an original English farce which he hopes will be performed in the near future! And, together with Dave Brumwell, other "projects" are in the works.
- Dave Brumwell
Born in 1952, Dave is married to Sue and they have two children and three grandchildren. He believes life is a rich tapestry to be enjoyed and has experienced many wonderful moments.
Dave and Sue ran a garden machinery business just outside Tenby in Wales for 24 years prior to immigrating to Nova Scotia in 2004. Right now he and Sue run "Bluestone Magik and Enchanted Crystal" gift shop in Mahone Bay.
Dave is a member of "South Shore Players" and "Have a Laugh Players" theatre groups, and this year he, Jon Allen and Vince Morash, initiated the "Summer Troupe", which put "Glimpses of Lunenburg". Their forty-four show run received widespread acclaim.
In between running the business and his theatre work, Dave is presently writing a mobile Stage-show with a raunchy title for this coming spring. He and Jon Allen are writing some new skits for the summer 2009 "Glimpses" production, and they are also having a lot of fun plotting and writing a Christmas Pantomime show.
